Ambetter Superior Texas
Ambetter Texas ACA Plan Features:
- Ambetter sells good cheap health insurance, but you should check with your doctors before you buy a plan to make sure they accept the coverage. Ambetter customers have reported issues with finding in-network doctors, even using the company’s online search tool.
- Cheap rates and good perks like $0 Telemedicine, vision, dental, and discounts on gym memberships and mental health apps
- Do require electronic referrals
- Don’t cover services provided by out-of-network health care professionals, except for emergency services for HMO and EPO plans
- Offers off-exchange plans with a larger, nationwide PPO network (not subsidy eligible)
Scott &White Health Plans
Scott & White ACA Plan Features:
Scott and White is not offering individual PPO plans in 2025. We would recommend Oscar or BCBSTX instead.
United HealthCare
UHC Texas ACA Plan Features:
- Have customized, focused networks of health care professionals
- Require that members have a primary care physician (PCP), or UHC will assign one to them
- Do require electronic referrals
- Have prior authorization and notification requirements
- Require that members pay the first month’s premium before coverage goes into effect
- Don’t cover services provided by out-of-network health care professionals, except for emergency services and relevant admissions UHC authorizes
