About NCD Dental Insurance

NCD (National Care Dental) sells individual and family dental and vision plans through its partnerships with MetLife for dental and VSP for vision. NCD says its white glove service model aims to answer member calls in under 30 seconds and get your need handled right the first time. If you are comparing dental insurance plans in Texas, NCD is worth a look when you want coverage that starts right away instead of making you wait six to twelve months for a crown.

NCD offers eight dental plans in three families: NCD by MetLife (Complete, Essentials and Value), NCD Elite by MetLife (5000, 3000 and 1500) and NCD Bright by MetLife (1500 and 1000). You pick the annual maximum and deductible that fit your budget.

$10,000

High Annual Maximum

NCD Complete pays up to $10,000 per insured person per calendar year, far above the $1,000 to $3,000 caps on many individual dental plans.

0

No Waiting Periods

Complete, Essentials, Elite and Bright have no waiting period on preventive, basic or major services. Only NCD Value has a 12-month wait on major work.

100%

Cleanings Covered

Preventive cleanings are covered at 100% on Complete, Essentials, Value and Elite. Bright covers 90% in year one and 100% from year two.

Source: ncd.com plan pages, reviewed October 2026. Prices are monthly for one adult (member only), quoted through the NCD enrollment tool in October 2026 for Dallas, Houston, McAllen and El Paso ZIP codes. Rates vary by ZIP code but did not change with age in our checks, so your price may differ. Deductibles on Essentials, Value, Elite and Bright apply to basic and major services. Value's crown and root canal coinsurance is published for year 2 and later because of its 12-month wait on major services. Implant maximums: Elite 5000 $2,500, Elite 3000 $1,500, Elite 1500 $750, and Complete $3,000. Benefits, exclusions and limitations are governed by the policy. Plans and premiums are subject to change and not available in all states.

Which NCD plan fits you? If you expect crowns, root canals or a lot of dental work, NCD Complete has the largest annual maximum and no waiting period. If you mostly want cleanings and a safety net at a lower price, NCD Essentials, Bright or Value keep the cost down. If you want implant coverage, the Elite plans include it after a 24-month wait.

How the Year-by-Year Coinsurance Works

Most NCD plans start paying right away, but the share the plan pays on major services grows over time. On NCD Complete and Essentials, for example, crowns and root canals are paid at 10% in year one, 50% in year two and 60% from year three on. Fillings and simple extractions start at 65% and rise to 80%, then 90%.

  1. Year one is the lowest benefit year. If you know you need a crown, expect to pay most of the cost in the first year on these plans, even though there is no waiting period.
  2. Benefits step up each year you keep the plan. The longer you stay, the more the plan pays on fillings, extractions and major work.
  3. Use a MetLife PPO dentist. Network dentists have agreed to discounted fees, which lowers your share of the bill. You can see any dentist, but in-network benefits are better.
  4. Check the annual maximum. Once the plan has paid up to your maximum in a calendar year, you pay the rest until the year resets.
Read before you enroll for major work: NCD plans pay a small share of crowns and root canals in year one. They are built for long-term coverage and for avoiding big bills over time, not for a single large procedure this month. A $10,000 maximum does not mean the plan pays $10,000 in year one. Ask us to run the numbers for the work your dentist has recommended.
