Get contracted with Texas carriers
Pick the carriers you want appointments with by line of business - ACA, off-exchange, Medicare, dental and vision, life, and small group. IHA’s contracting team submits the contracts so you are not chasing carrier reps.

What you need to sell health insurance in Texas
- A Texas license. Resident agents need a General Lines - Life, Accident and Health license from the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI). Agents licensed in another state can add a Texas non-resident license through NIPR.
- FFM registration for ACA plans. Texas uses the federal Marketplace (HealthCare.gov), so you need a current CMS Marketplace registration and training to write on-exchange business. Note that CMS has paused new FFM registrations for agents without a PY2026 agreement through February 1, 2027 - read what it means for you.
- Carrier appointments. IHA contracts you with Texas individual, Medicare, dental, and small group carriers, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas, Ambetter, Oscar, Wellpoint, Moda, and Harbor Health. See the Texas carriers we work with.
- E&O coverage. Most carriers require errors and omissions insurance before your appointment is approved (see step 6 above).
