Aetna in Texas: Medicare and Group Plans (2026)

Aetna still covers Texans - just not on the Marketplace. Aetna CVS Health left the individual and family ACA business effective January 1, 2026, while Aetna Medicare and Aetna’s employer group plans continue in Texas.

Aetna no longer sells individual or family ACA plans in Texas

CVS Health announced in May 2025 that Aetna would leave the individual and family plan (IFP) exchange business, and that exit took effect for the 2026 plan year. Aetna is not among the carriers offering 2026 Marketplace coverage in Texas. If you had an Aetna CVS Health plan through the Marketplace, it did not renew for 2026 - you needed to pick a different carrier. This did not affect Medicare or employer coverage.

What Aetna Still Sells in Texas

Two lines of business continue here, and we can help with both.

Aetna Medicare

Aetna offers Medicare Advantage plans in Texas, including HMO and PPO options, plans that bundle Part D drug coverage, and standalone Part D through Aetna SilverScript. What’s available depends on your county, so the plan list for Dallas is not the plan list for Midland. We compare Aetna against the other Medicare carriers we represent rather than leading with one brand.

Aetna for Texas employers

Aetna remains a group carrier in Texas for fully insured and level-funded plans, with the CVS and MinuteClinic integration that comes with it. Group is quoted per company, based on your census, ZIP codes and current plan.

The Aetna network can still reach you through another carrier

Allstate Health Solutions uses the Aetna network on its Texas short term medical certificates. So if a doctor tells you they take Aetna, that does not by itself mean an Aetna policy is what you are buying. Always confirm the plan name, not just the network logo.

If You Had an Aetna Marketplace Plan

Here is where Texans in that position generally end up.

  • Compare the carriers still in the Texas Marketplace. Start with individual and family health insurance to see who sells 2026 coverage here and which subsidies you qualify for.
  • Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas is the only 2026 carrier covering the entire state, and the only one selling PPO and POS plans. See the 2026 BCBSTX plan guide.
  • Do not wait for Open Enrollment if you have a qualifying life event. Losing other coverage, moving, marriage, or a new baby can open a special enrollment window.

If You Are on Medicare or Turning 65

  • Get Medicare quotes and we will price Aetna’s Advantage and Part D plans in your county alongside the alternatives.
  • Texas Medicare Supplement plans covers how Medigap works next to Original Medicare, and which companies we quote.
  • Annual Enrollment runs October 15 through December 7 each year for Medicare Advantage and Part D, with coverage starting January 1.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Aetna leaving Medicare too?

No. The 2026 exit was limited to individual and family ACA plans. Aetna continues to offer Medicare Advantage and Part D coverage in Texas, and employer group plans are unaffected.

Can I buy an individual Aetna health plan in Texas for 2026?

Not on or off the Marketplace. Aetna’s individual and family medical plans ended with the 2025 plan year. If you want individual coverage, it has to come from another carrier.

What happened to my Aetna CVS Health plan at the end of 2025?

Coverage ran through December 31, 2025 as long as premiums were paid. It did not renew into 2026. Members who did not choose a new plan during Open Enrollment were left without coverage rather than being moved automatically to another Aetna product.

My employer plan is with Aetna. Does any of this affect me?

No. Employer-sponsored coverage is a separate line of business and Aetna still writes group plans in Texas. See Aetna Texas group health insurance.

Why does my doctor still say they take Aetna?

Because the Aetna provider network is still very much in use here - through Medicare plans, employer plans, and other carriers that rent the network. Network access and who issues your policy are two different things.

Not sure what you have, or what to replace it with?

Tell us your ZIP code, who needs covering and whether this is Medicare, individual or a company plan. We will tell you straight which carriers actually make sense.
